Gosforth Youth Theatre was formed in 1982, and has a long history as one of the most successful youth drama groups in the North Derbyshire/South Yorkshire area.
‘GYT’ is open to young people aged 11 and over, we have no upper age limit, and we do not audition new members to see if they are ‘good enough’ – all we ask for is commitment and enthusiasm. All members of GYT who want to appear on stage are given the opportunity.
We aim to present a minimum of one full length production each year, as well as entering the Sheffield One-Act Play Festival each June.
We are not attached to any school, and we are not a youth section of an adult group. What you see is what you get!
We are a non-profit making organisation and it is our intention to finance all our productions through our own efforts. There is no fee for joining the group but we do charge weekly subs, currently just £1 per week.
Rehearsals are supervised primarily by Phil Gascoyne, Rod Duncan and John Moran – Phil is a retired drama teacher, Rod is a Children’s Social Care Manager and John is a teacher. Additional support to the group comes from a number of adult volunteers who started as members of the Youth Theatre. All our core staff are DBS checked. Member’s personal details will not be shared outside of the group.
The group meets on Thursday evenings, from 7.30pm until 10pm at Coal Aston Village Hall, Eckington Road, Coal Aston, Dronfield, S18 3AX.
